Course Selection

The course selection process in middle school is an opportunity for students  to shape their academic journey and explore new interests. Course selection begins in the Spring which includes school counselors meeting with the students by grade level to review the process. Factors to consider include  interests and passions, future goals, extracurricular activities and teacher recommendations.

Course selection  information is shared with families to engage in this process.  Notification of completed schedules will be sent home via email. Teachers recommend courses and levels that appropriately challenge students based upon performance, motivation, and work ethic. Students are encouraged to  explore new subjects and challenge themselves with unfamiliar topics. Middle school is a time for growth and discovery.

Note:

Full year courses run from the start of the school year to the end of the school year.

Semester courses run for half of the school year. A student may have a semester the first half of the school then pick up a new course for the second half of the school year.

Quarter courses run for one fourth of the school year. A quarter breaks the school year into four parts which means a student may take up to four quarter courses.
