College Level Classes Available to Lakeview High School Students

Advanced Placement (AP)

AP is an academic program that provides students with exposure to college level work during high school. Through these courses, AP teachers assist students with developing and applying the skills, abilities, and content knowledge they will need at the college level. Each AP course is modeled on a comparable college course by the College Board. AP courses allow students to earn college credit via the completion of a college level assessment developed and scored by the College Board (awarded per individual college AP score requirements), stand out in the admissions process, and broaden their own intellectual horizons. Note that AP courses do require summer work.

Students are strongly encouraged to take the College Board AP Exam in each AP course they complete. Each student is fiscally responsible for the fee for AP Exams. Students may visit their School Counselor should they feel this financial responsibility presents a significant burden to them and their family.

UCONN ECE Courses

UCONN Early College Experience (UCONN ECE) provides academically motivated students with the opportunity to take university courses while in high school. These challenging courses allow students to preview college work, build confidence in their readiness for college, and earn college credits that provide both an academic and a financial head start on a college degree and other postsecondary opportunities.

UCONN ECE Instructors are high school teachers who are recognized by the University of Connecticut to teach UCONN courses while adhering to the standards set by NACEP, as well as the University’s discipline-specific academic department. To support rigorous learning, University of Connecticut academic resources, including library and online classroom access, are available to all UCONN ECE students.

Students must apply and enroll with UCONN at the start of the school year during which they are taking a UCONN ECE course. A fee payable to UCONN is required in the Fall and billing is submitted directly to the student by UCONN.

UCONN ECE Course Registration

Registration for the UCONN ECE course is a five step process. Students will not be able to enroll in the course if the student fails to complete all of the steps by the registration deadline set by UCONN. The University of Connecticut sends fee notifications to the email address the student provides during the application process. Students are financially responsible for all courses for which they register. University standard policies on late fees, returned checks, and collections apply. All policies and procedures can be found at: ece.uconn.edu.

Partnership Program with Connecticut State Community College

The High School Partnership Program is designed to enable qualified high school Juniors and Seniors to take up to two courses each semester at any CT State Community College campus or remotely, after school hours on a “space available” basis at no cost. Qualified students must have an overall B- (3.0) average and approval from their School Counselor.

Students may register for specific developmental courses and/or 100-level or higher courses, given they meet the prerequisites for the courses they register for. Students are responsible for purchasing their own books for each course and providing their own transportation to/from the CT State Community College campus. A transcript for the student’s work will be maintained at CT State Community College, and can be submitted when the student applies to college during their Senior year. It is the student’s responsibility to request a transcript for CT State Community College for submission with their applications.

Anyone interested should contact their School Counselor for additional information and a link to the online application for the High School Partnership Program. CT State Community College sets deadlines for each semester that Lakeview High School must adhere to.
